Second ThoughtGroup show, Detriti Gallery, Gothenburg, Sweden, 2025.
From the gallery’s website:
“In response to the 13th edition of the Göteborg International Biennial for Contemporary Art, Detriti Gallery is happy to announce ‘Second Thought’, a group exhibition featuring artists Lani Fusako DuVall, Anne-Sofie Ø. Petersen, Linnea Hilding, Gustaf Helsing, Irys Kluska, Hannah McDonald, Carl Henry Ek, Helena Lundahl, Kristina Sjönnemo and Allis Näs. This exhibition explores the relationship between artistic processes and the re-evaluation and transformation of narratives, identities, and histories.
Through their practices, artists continuously revisit, challenge, and reframe their own work, as well as personal and collective experiences.”
The work included in this show is from a recent set of ongoing works that center around themes of reconciliation, shame, girlhood, and gendered consumption. The images and symbols explored in these works are drawn from personal memory, which are inextricably tied to mass culture. Using soap and wax to hold these narratives together, there is an inevitable fragility in the materials that opens dialogue to the fleeting nature of memories as well as the loss of control.
